Columbus Day

One of the great things about working in Washington, DC, is that we get all the federal holidays off. Like today, Columbus Day. It was a beautiful day, so I took another stroll through Old Town (and I made sure I had enough battery power in my camera).

The Athenaeum. This was built in the mid-19th century as a bank, now it's an art gallery.

Historic Captain's Row. This is one of the few streets in town that still has its original cobblestones. It's a block from the river, so I'm guessing this is where all the sea captains lived back in colonial times.

This statue is called "The Shipbuilder," in commemoration of Alexandria's maritime heritage.

Everytime I walk down by the marina, I start humming the Gilligan's Island theme song.

The beginnings of fall.
