Time for the cherry blossoms!

I left work early yesterday and went down to the Tidal Basin to view the cherry blossoms. Luckily, because it was a weekday, there weren't half as many people as on a weekend. Unfortunately, it was another gloomy day just like last year when I went. Man, I can't catch a break! All I want is a picture of pink cherry blossoms with a blue sky and blue water....is that too much to ask?! Anywho, here are some of my favorite pics:

I know this will sound totally cheesy, but it felt like walking through an enchanted forest. It was so peaceful and beautiful.

I've discovered that I like taking pictures of people who are unaware of my presence. It adds such an interesting element to my photos.

I took some pictures at the Jefferson Memorial....

And I saw a two-legged dog that walks upright!!!! (Coincidentally, the Post did a story about her today.)

TJ is such a rock star.

In these pictures, I liked including people to show the impressive size of the columns.

I also visited the FDR Memorial...

And finally, I stopped by the tulip garden on my way out, but only some of the tulips were in bloom.

Oh, and one more thing: Marine One flew by a couple times. That's always exciting.

Anticipation

I feel like a kid counting down the days till Christmas. Opening Day is this weekend, and I am SO excited! In case you've been living under a rock, there is a brand spankin' new stadium here in DC. Over the past week or two, there has been lots of signage going up along M Street and in the Navy Yard metro station.

Oh, and this is the view of the stadium from the Navy Yard:

That's right. I'll be able to walk to the games after work.

There's an exhibition game tomorrow against the Orioles, which will be the first time the public will get to experience the ballpark (aside from the measly 3,000 that went to a GW baseball game last week). I promise to have a full report. And Sunday is the big day: The Season Opener. Primetime. On ESPN. President Bush will be throwing out the first pitch. Everyone watch it!

A Resounding Kiss....

I came across this great picture the other day at work (taken at Pearl Harbor in 1945).

However, the best part is the caption: "A resounding kiss sped each dischargee on his way." I don't know who makes these Navy captions, but they can be pretty amusing sometimes.

Portfolio

My photography class is finally over - it was originally supposed to be 9 weeks but was stretched into 11 weeks. It was definitely a valuable learning experience, and a great way to spend those dreary winter days, but I'll be SO happy to have my Sunday nights back! I've assembled the best pictures I took for my assignments and posted them here, so go ahead and take a gander if you feel so inclined. Busy day

Today was a busy day, but what a great day to be outside! The weather has been great...I just hope it'll last long enough for opening day. :)

I left my house bright and early this morning for a volunteer briefing at Walter Reed. I didn't get a chance to take a lot of pictures there, but I did snap a pic of the chapel, which is beautiful.

Then I met Lacey for lunch at Eastern Market, and we walked around a bit.

And she played with some finger puppets. (I'm sure she's going to love me for posting this picture.)

How many Spiderman puppets can you find?

We tried some free samples of local produce. Delicious!

And we checked out some handicrafts at the flea market.

Since I was right across the street from the Capitol building, I walked around some and took more pictures. Along with the rest of the world.

I finally got home around 4:30...that was almost like a full day of work! I'm exhausted. I think I'll sit on the couch and eat Easter candy.
