Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial

This morning I visited the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, which was officially dedicated last month. Its location on the Tidal Basin is beautiful and serene. Even though it had some controversy (as all memorials do), I thought it was tastefully done; the selection of quotations was moving and inspiring, although one was not entirely accurate.

I remember reading in the Post that the sculptor carved MLK's face from memory. Pretty amazing.

C&O Canal

Here are a few pictures I took yesterday while walking along the C&O Canal in Georgetown. The canal has a quaint, Old World quality; it almost feels as if you're stepping back in time.

Prince William Forest

We've had picture-perfect fall weather for the past few days and the leaves are at their peak fall color. Unfortunately I've been stuck inside the office for long hours working on important projects. I was in desperate need of a nature walk. I didn't feel like going to the usual crowded spots such as Great Falls or Shenandoah, even though both are lovely. I wanted to try something new and hopefully find a hidden gem. I settled on Prince William Forest, one of our area's many national parks. It's located about 30 miles to the south, right next door to Quantico Marine Base. The park turned out to be quite scenic (although lacking the breathtaking vistas of the other two). It was quiet and peaceful, just as nature should be.
