Washington National Cathedral

Yesterday I visited the Washington National Cathedral, one of my favorite spots in DC. It's so peaceful and beautiful. And, to me, it really reminds me of the majesty of God and gives me a sense of what Solomon's temple might have looked like (without all the Gothic elements, of course; I just mean in terms of grandeur).

We took the 30-minute guided tour, but spent several hours just exploring on our own.

We saw some school groups, including these kids with their matching t-shirts.

Aside from the nave, there are nine chapels throughout the cathedral, each with its own theme.
The Resurrection Chapel had beautiful mosaics on the walls.

The War Memorial Chapel is dedicated to those who have served our country.

The Holy Spirit Chapel.

The Bethlehem Chapel (the first part of the cathedral to be built).

St. John's Chapel.

A view of the Creation Rose window.

The pulpit with the organ and choir loft in the background.

I believe this is the baptistry. I love the lighting in this one.

The stained glass windows were spectacular. I just wish they were easier to photograph! Only a few of them  came out well.

This little nook reminds me of a medieval castle.

We went up to the observation tower, where there was a pretty nice view.

You can see the Washington Monument off in the distance.

We also spent some time in the Bishop's Garden.

And here's one parting shot of Tracey taking a picture of the windows...I like it because it shows the scale of the building compared to a person.

I hope y'all didn't mind all the pictures. There were just so many good ones!
