I went to my first ever hockey game last night: the Washington Capitals vs. the Philadelphia Flyers. I have never seen so many Canadians in one place. (In fact, I looked up the roster this morning and there are only 5 Americans on the team...not there's anything wrong with that.) The Caps handily defeated the Flyers 6-2. One of our guys scored within the first 15 seconds, and the momentum just kept going from there. The best part of the game was, of course, the fight that briefly broke out. I think the crowd cheered more for that than when our team scored.
The enjoyment of the game was heightened by the fact that, unlike in baseball, there is no cutoff for alcohol purchase. There were many folks around us who were very...uh...spirited. Also, I saw the most awesome mullet of all time. If only there were a tactful way to take a picture of one. [Side note: If you are not familiar with the mullet, you can read the wikipedia entry here. For some really sweet pictures, go here. And I just learned that Canadians refer to mullets as "hockey hair."]
I love my zoom lens.
