The Boys of Summer Are Back!

I mentioned a few days ago how seeing the cherry blossoms each year is a rite of spring. And here's another one: Opening Day! There's something great about Opening Day. Everyone has a clean slate and anything can happen. Even the worst teams (like the Nationals) have hope. Plus, I'm not going to lie, it was nice playing hookey on a beautiful spring day.

President Obama threw out the first pitch. There was much excitement and anticipation in the air. Here, the crowd awaits his arrival onto the field.

And wouldn't you know it, my batteries decided to die at that exact moment! Of course I couldn't put new batteries in my camera in time to capture the first pitch. (It was high and outside.)

The players take the field; a welcome sight after a cruel winter. The first 3 innings were glorious. The Nats managed to get ahead 1-0 early on. But they promptly regained their old form and lost the game 11-1. Ah well, as they say in baseball, there's always tomorrow.
