Great Falls 2.0

Last fall I visited the Virginia side of Great Falls. So this past weekend (on Columbus Day, thank you federal government), Kara and I did some light hiking on the Maryland side, which is actually the C&O Canal National Historical Park. The view of the falls and river is better from the Virginia side, but the Maryland side definitely has its merits. They have the historic C&O Canal!

They give mule-drawn boat rides, but sadly not on the day we were there.

We saw this neat bird. We think it's a type of heron.

I told Kara to get in the hole so I could take a picture. But she wanted to make sure there weren't any wild animals in there, so she threw a stick at it.

Good time to go. We went to the MD side in the winter one year when the path was icy. Why they didn't shut down the narrow path is beyond me. It was a terrifying hike where one wrong step could mean sliding into the slightly frozen canal and almost certain death from hypothermia.
